Finally, this semester is drawing to a close. I'm really glad I took this module. I had taken this module one year back, but was forced to drop it because I could not get a lab slot. Back then, Dr Julian was the only person teaching the module. At least now he has Jing, Siti and Alfred to help him.
I was fortunate to had been able to be taught under both Dr Julian and Jing. In Dr Julian's class, he really taught me how to give constructive criticism. In Jing's class, she really made us think critically, analysing our own work and others'. I still remember how she made us ask questions and if no one asked, the person who was presenting his/her work could not go back to their seat.
I am more of a hands-on person, making crafts from paper, cloth, anything. This is the first time I had to apply visual principles and really design something on the computer. I enjoyed using Illustrator, from not even knowing how to draw proper curved lines to being able to draw things.
I also learnt that sometimes we need to experiment in our designs before we can find the design we are satisfied with. For example, for the greeting card assignment, after changing the entire design, I finally had a design I was more satisfied with. (More satisfied, not satisfied.)
Now sitting here blogging this entry, I suddenly feel very satisfied and proud of all the work I have done. All the hard work I put in for my portfolio, my designs, the projects...whoohoo!
Thanks to everyone who have helped me in this module, Ms Jing, Dr Julian, my tutorial group, project group. They have made my learning process more fun and exciting.
I've really come a long way since the first post in this blog..I'm actually kind of sad to have this last post.

Final Project - Storybook - God Created Fly and Forgot Why

This is the book for our storybook project. It's the only time during this module when we could work in a bigger group instead of the usual individual work throughout the semester. The process was tedious. First, we met up to decide on a story, then coming up with the designs and text, transfering everything into digital format, layouting for the storybook, making adjustments for print then finally seeing the the physical output of the book. Even though everything was difficult and time was rather limited, I'm really glad that our group managed to come up with the storybook nicely.
After this project, I finally understood why alot of people say it is difficult to work with designers. I wouldn't say that we are designers, but at least, we are sort of some way there. It was sometimes difficult to do things when everyone has their own idea and perception of things. In our own minds, we have our own image of how the book looks like. But in the end, I hope we were all satisfied with the final product.
